Unagi Model One Voyager Electric Scooter Comparision

The Unagi Model One Voyager keeps the sleek style of the Classic but adds some great new features at €1,389.95. The deck is now wider and covered in rubber, and you can choose from new colours like matte black, cobalt blue, and latte (tan). Moreover, it still has the same carbon fiber high quality build, a bright display, puncture-proof tyres, and an easy folding mechanism.

The big upgrade? The Voyager can travel almost twice the range—up to 25 miles compared to the Classic’s 12-mile range. Unagi has used better battery technology and optimised the motors and controllers to give you more range without adding weight.

When comparing the Voyager to other lightweight scooters, like the Mosquito, it’s worth noting the Mosquito can hit higher speeds of up to 25 mph and has a similar range of 22 miles at a much cheaper price tag of €824.19. It weighs about the same at 29 pounds and can carry a bit more weight. However, it doesn’t have the same sleek design, modern features like app integration, or the same braking performance.

Another electric scooter comparable with the Voyager is the Fluid Horizon, which costs €741.86. It’s a bit heavier at 42 pounds but offers better speed (23 mph), a longer range (30 miles), and the ability to carry more weight. But, it lacks the stylish and modern look of the Voyager.

For now, lets get into the details of the Model One Voyager, Unagi’s famous lightweight and portable electric scooter.

Unagi Model One Voyager Summary

The Unagi Model One Voyager stands out as the top choice for a lightweight and ultra portable e scooter. With three speed modes (9, 12, and 15 MPH) and a hidden trick to reach 20 MPH, it’s both versatile and powerful. While the top speed can drain the battery quickly, the Voyager’s range is impressive, going from 12 to 25 miles on a single charge.

We love how the Voyager handles hills and quick starts at traffic lights thanks to its dual 250-watt motors (totalling 500 watts and peaking at 1,000 watts). It has dual electronic anti-lock brakes and an extra rear fender brake for safety.

While air-filled tyres might make the ride smoother, the Voyager’s lightweight design (just 29.6 lbs) and easy one-click folding mechanism make it super convenient to carry and store.

Overall, it’s one of the most stylish and modern scooters, perfect for everyday commuting.

Speed, Power, and Range

With the Unagi Model One Voyager, you can choose from three speed modes: 9, 12, and 15 MPH. But there’s a trick to unlock its full speed—20 MPH! Just turn it on, hold both brakes and the accelerator, then tap the power button ten times quickly. But be warned, as this powerful mode drains the battery extremely fast.

Moreover, the scooter now has a total of 1000W peak power thanks to its dual 250W motors, which is a nice boost from the original Model One.

But speed isn’t the only thing the Voyager has going for it. Its acceleration is fantastic, too, reaching 15 mph from a standstill in just 4.4 seconds. That’s quicker than scooters like the Mosquito and Horizon, making it a fun ride from the get-go.

Another upgrade we love about the Voyager is its bigger, longer-lasting battery. The original Model One had a range of 12 miles, but the Voyager steps it up with an impressive 25 miles. Thanks to advanced battery technology and a smart management system, this scooter charges quickly in 3 hours and is built to last for years of daily use. And the energy-dense cells help keep the Voyager light, so it remains the lightest electric scooter in its class.

When it comes to climbing hills, the Voyager is the best among lightweight scooters. Just keep in mind, with each motor at 250W and a combined peak of 1000W, it’s perfect for city streets but not for steep San Francisco hills.

Braking

When it comes to stopping, the Model One Voyager has you covered. Just a gentle push on the ergonomically designed brake lever engages the dual electronic anti-lock brakes, bringing you to a safe and steady stop every time.

We particularly love how Unagi has made the controls so intuitive. The harder you press on the accelerator or brake, the stronger the response—making it easy to adjust your riding style. Plus, the Voyager includes a classic friction brake, letting you switch to a “foot braking” style if you prefer.

Overall, we found the braking on the Model One Voyager to be responsive and reliable, giving riders confidence on every ride.

Handling and Ride Quality

When it comes to how the Unagi Model One Voyager handles and rides, there are some great features and a few things to keep in mind.

Handlebars

The 16-inch handlebars on the Voyager are one of its best features. They’re just the right size to give you a solid grip and make the scooter feel steady, even when you’re riding at its top speed. We love how these handlebars help you steer smoothly and stay balanced.

Deck

The deck is 5.25 inches wide, which might seem a bit narrow, but it’s 18.5 inches long. This length gives you plenty of room to place your feet comfortably. Plus, the deck has a grippy rubber surface with the Unagi logo, so you can ride without worrying about slipping.

Suspension System

One downside of the Voyager is that it doesn’t have a suspension system. This means you’ll feel every bump and crack in the road more than you might expect. For the smoothest ride, you’ll want to stick to well-maintained roads. If you hit rough patches, you might feel a bit of a jolt.

Deck-to-Handlebar Height

With a deck-to-handlebar height of 38.5 inches, the Voyager is designed for riders of average height. If you’re over 6 feet tall, you might find this scooter a bit short for you as you might need to hunch over a little to stay comfortable.

Tyres

The Unagi Model One Voyager comes with 7.5-inch solid rubber tyres that are built to last. These tyres are puncture-proof, so you won’t have to worry about flat tyres ruining your day. We love how these tyres fit perfectly with Unagi’s low-maintenance design, making them a great choice for daily commutes.

Unagi has also added air pockets around the wheels, claiming that these act as a kind of front and rear suspension system. While this sounds clever, the ride can still be pretty bumpy. Despite the air pockets, you’ll still feel most of the shocks and vibrations from the road. It’s a bit disappointing because proper air-filled tyres could have really improved the ride quality.

In summary, the tyres on the Voyager are durable and low-maintenance, but they don’t do much to smooth out the ride.

Portability

Unagi Model One Voyager - Lightweight Electric Scooter

The RoadRunner Pro is equipped with 180 mm rotors along with spectacular Zoom hydraulic 2-piston callipers, providing excellent stopping power to match its speed. This ensures safe and quick stops so you can ride with peace of mind.

Handling this scooter is also a breeze. It features an adjustable front fender, allowing you to customise its height to fit your riding style. Moreover, the comfortable twist throttle offers exceptional control while you ride.

The last thing you need with such a powerful scooter is a cockpit that’s hard to manage or flimsy handlebars. Thankfully, this model excels in both areas.

The handlebars are 31 inches wide, among the widest we’ve seen, which is excellent considering the power of its dual motors. This ensures stability and control. Plus, their height can be adjusted with spacers, and they can be moved closer or further away from you.

We also love the massive 14-inch tyres on this scooter. The RoadRunner Pro lives up to its name, and these tyres play a big part in that. Their size provides excellent balance, handling, and manoeuvrability. Additionally, their tubeless design and split rims make tyre changes a snap.

As for the suspension on the RoadRunner Pro, it is outstanding. Similar to the legendary Kaabo Wolf King GT, the Pro features a customised dual crown fork that provides strong front-end stability and long-lasting durability. The front hydraulic suspension absorbs potholes and keeps your ride smooth and straight.

In the rear, the dual spring suspension bounces back from bumps, making this seated electric scooter comfy for daily long trips.

With its full suspension, the RoadRunner Pro offers a dream-like ride, even at high speeds. We honestly haven’t found an electric scooter that combines comfort and performance as effortlessly as this one.

Design and Features

design and features

If you loved the iPhone-inspired design of the original Model One, you’re in for a treat with the Unagi Model One Voyager. This scooter takes ergonomic design to a whole new level, and we think it’s one of the best we’ve ever seen!

Let’s dive into why this scooter stands out. First off, the thumb throttle and electronic braking paddles are incredibly smooth. You’ll find these controls are not only easy to use but also very responsive.

But there’s more! Just above each paddle are small buttons: the left one activates the horn, and the right one lets you switch your ride settings. A quick tap shows you key stats, and a double tap changes the riding mode (choose between modes 1, 2, or 3).

In the centre of the handlebars, there’s a bright display that’s easy to read, even in bright sunlight. There’s also another handy button here: tap it to turn the lights on or off, and double-tap to adjust or turn off the motor.

The handlebar is made from magnesium alloy, a material that’s 33% lighter than aluminium. This engineering marvel required over thirty prototypes to get just right, and it shows. The top bar houses all the essential controls—throttle, brake, horn, and LED headlight—without any visible wires or bulky parts. It’s a clean, sleek design that perfectly connects you to your ride.

Unagi is known for creating beautiful scooters, and the Voyager is a perfect example of that. This scooter is made from the same carbon fibre used in SpaceX rockets, which is pretty impressive if you ask us. Plus, the deep cobalt blue colour is absolutely stunning. But if blue isn’t your style, you can also choose from matte black, cool mist (a soft green), or latte (a clean white).

Out of all the scooters we’ve reviewed, the Voyager stands out with its unique and eye-catching silhouette.

Load Capacity

The Unagi Model One Voyager can handle up to 220 lbs, which is pretty standard for a scooter under 30 lbs. If you’re a bit heavier and looking for something light, you might want to check out the Mosquito, which supports up to 265 lbs.

Lights

The Voyager comes with both a headlight and a taillight, adding to your safety while riding. The headlight is fairly bright, but for extra security on darker streets or in poorly lit areas, we recommend adding a clip-on light or a helmet light.

The taillight is a great touch, too—it pulses when you hit the brakes, which helps make you more visible to others. Overall, these lights do a good job, but a little extra lighting can make your rides even safer.

Mobile App

One of the standout upgrades for the Voyager compared to the classic Model One is its new mobile app. Unagi’s in-house team designed this app to make your ride even better. With it, you can manage your subscription, track important riding stats, and even lock and unlock the scooter from your phone. Plus, you can switch between single and dual motor modes and set speed limits for each riding mode.

We also really like the distance-to-empty feature. You can enter your weight and tell the app if you’ll be riding on flat or hilly terrain, and it will calculate how many miles you can ride before the battery runs out. It’s a handy tool that adds a lot of convenience to your rides.

Build Quality

When it comes to build quality, Unagi is at the top of their game, much like Al Pacino is with his roles. The Voyager is a great example of this commitment to excellence. Unagi uses top-notch materials and skilled designers to make sure everything feels premium.

From the sleek cable management that’s hidden away to the sturdy stainless steel folding mechanism, every detail is carefully crafted. The futuristic cockpit and the one-piece carbon fibre stem add to the high-end feel of the scooter. It’s clear that Unagi puts a lot of thought into every part of the Voyager, making it stand out as a top-quality choice.

Water Resistance

The Model One Voyager has some limitations when it comes to water resistance. With an IPX4 rating, it can handle a few splashes, but it’s not designed for heavy rain. While we typically avoid riding in the rain, it would have been nice to see better water resistance compared to the 2019 model, especially since other scooters out there offer IP66 ratings.

Who Is The Unagi Model One Voyager Best For?

Unagi really knows its audience with the Model One Voyager. This scooter is perfect for stylish city-goers who live and breathe Instagram. The Voyager’s sleek design will catch the eye of everyone around you as you ride to class or head to your trendy office.

But it’s not just about looks. The Voyager comes with a cool mobile app, a futuristic cockpit, and powerful dual motors. It’s built for those who love tech and need a reliable, lightweight ride for their busy city life. Whether you’re commuting or just cruising around, this scooter is all about making your urban adventures smooth and fun.

Is The Unagi Model One Voyager Worth The Price Tag?

Deciding if the Unagi Voyager is worth the price comes down to what you’re looking for. If you’re into cutting-edge tech, stylish design, and a scooter that’s easy to carry around, this one is a top pick. It’s a standout choice for those who value modern features and chic looks at €1,389.95.

However, if you’re more focused on speed and power, there are other scooters out there that might offer better performance for the same price. It really depends on what you need from your ride!
