Razor Power A5 Summary

The Power A5 electric scooter is style personified with its black, streamlined frame. With a brushless hub throttle, extra-large flat-free polyurethane wheels, an anti-rattle folding mechanism, and height-adjustable handlebars, the A5 Black Label Electric Scooter is just a joy to ride.. A tough aluminium frame and a max rider weight of 176 lbs. make the A5 Black Label Electric suitable for kids and adults alike; the Black Label Electric scooter is outdoor fun for everyone. If you want to take it up a notch, Razor doesn’t disappoint with this kick to start e-scooter that can accelerate to speeds of up to 10 MPH (16 km h) with the press of a button. It can also function as a kick scooter when you want it to. The rechargeable 22V lithium-ion pack battery pack gives a 40-minute ride time, which is ample if you commute regularly for running errands etc. The braking system of the Black Label Electric Scooter is intuitive – just press your foot gently on the brake on the rear fender to stop with an automatic power cut-off for emergency stops.

Performance Overview

The Power A5 Electric Scooter has a 150 Watt motor capable of achieving speeds of up to 10 MPH (16 km h) when you press the thumb-activated throttle. The combination of the motor watt power and the lithium-ion powered 22V rechargeable battery is what gives this scooter the edge, and it is what enables it to reach pretty decent speeds of up to 10 MPH (16 km h) and a decent max range of up to 6.9 miles on a single charge. It also has unique anti-rattle technology and wider, solid tyres designed to stay put on the ground which ensures it delivers on the comfortability factor. With a durable and foldable aluminium frame, this e-scooter is easy (and light enough) to fold up and carry about.  It can also function as a regular kick scooter if you want to cruise around, old school. Overall, the Power A5 electric scooter is reliable and efficient and is one of the more popular brands manufactured in the United States.

Razor Power A5

Top Speed & Acceleration

The Power A5 electric scooter may look slim but don’t let it’s size fool you. A brushless 150 Watt hub motor easily boosts the speed power of this scooter to speeds of up to 10 mph with the push of a thumb-activated throttle. While the pace of acceleration might not be the fastest, this is after all, a quality entry level e-scooter, so you should not be overly concerned with comparing the A5 with other electric scooters – some of them almost 2 times the price, with less overall features.

Hill Climbing

The Razor Power A5 is capable of riding up hills but if you are close to the recommended weight limit, or if you are attempting hills that are a bit steep, expect a reduction in the speed and motor power of the Power A5 electric scooter.

Battery Life & Range

The 22V lithium-ion battery is one of the more efficient battery types on the market. Not only is it energy-efficient but its also longer lasting, which is what gives this power a5 electric scooter up to 40 minutes of ride time on a single charge. Traditionally, Razor used to fit it’s e-scooters with Ni-Cad batteries, which were a LOT heavier and prone to frequent malfunctions. But as one can see with the A5, rather equipping Lithium-ion batteries is the next logical step in energy efficiency, longer-lasting quality, and rider satisfaction.

Motor Configuration

The 150 Watt brushless hub motor is a major step up from the chain-activated motor – it provides a quieter ride because it is built into the hub of the motor and is overall more energy efficient and has less maintenance issues. Most importantly to note is that chain drive motors are notorious for requiring regular maintenance and re-adjustment, and just giving issues generally, but this annoyance has all but been remedied by Razor rather equipping this electric scooter with a brushless hub motor, which gives far less maintenance issues.

Construction & Build Quality

The Power a5 electric scooter is tough. A durable aluminium frame, adjustable handlebars and a patent-pending, anti-rattle folding mechanism and large diameter wheels prove that this scooter is one of the best options out of the many scooter options available on the market today. Stopping off for a bit? – no worries! A retractable kickstands allows you to park it off quickly and conveniently as you go about your day. Adjustable handlebars with comfortable rubber grips provide added functionality to the Power A5 Black Label for obvious reasons -adjust it to suit your height requirements so that you don’t stunt your ride in any way. And after you’re done riding it, fold it up easily – ready for next time!

Suspension

Suspension is not the greatest on this e scooter due to its solid front and rear tyres. However, the 8-inch tyres are slightly larger in diameter (which make up for it in a way) covering a large surface area, minimising the impact felt of bumps and dips, which makes for a smoother ride overall.

Ride Quality

The ride quality of the A5 Black Label Electric Scooter is pretty good. An abrasion-resistant rear tyre and a urethane front wheel tyre will ensure that your tyres last for ages and won’t get scuffed on sharp, rough surfaces. An anti-rattle sturdy folding mechanism compliments the extra-large tyres and ensures that the A5 Black Electric Scooter is secure on the ground, minimising the impact of rougher terrain and contributing to a smoother, more comfortable ride overall.

Braking

Braking with the A5 Black Label Electric is so simple it comes instinctively. Just activate the brake by pressing your the foot on the rear fender brake which cuts off the power of the motor, so you can be assured you’ll stop safely and most importantly- stop in time.

Portability

The Razor a5 is easy to fold (with its patent-pending anti-rattle folding mechanism), store away or even carry around town due to its lightweight aluminium frame.

Water Resistance

None.

Lights

This scooter doesn’t come with a rear tail light or front headlight. You can choose to buy these as add-ons, however, for riding at times when visibility is less than ideal. Reflector lights that you could attach to the sides, back and front of your scooter also come in handy as an added safety feature if you want to enhance your visibility at night.

Tyres

With a front wheel 8-inch urethane tyre and rear solid tyre, the tyres of the Razor Power a5 Electric Scooter are tough and won’t need replacing nearly as often as air-filled tyres would.

Deck

The Razor Power A5 Electric Scooter’s deck has an anti-slip surface, so you don’t have to worry about your feet slipping off mid-ride. A retractable kick-stand scores the Power A5 Electric scooter extra brownie points for propping it up quickly when you step off of it.

Controls & Display

To switch the Power A5 Black Label on, just press the button on the side of the deck, and you’re ready to go. The genius of the Razor Power A5 Electric scooter is that its so simple to operate and, therefore, doesn’t need all the fancy features you would see on a more expensive e scooter. Activating the throttle is also super easy – just press the throttle down (which is situated on the right side of the handlebars for easy access) with your thumb.

Maintenance

8-inch urethane tyres and brushless hub motor ensure that you won’t be wasting valuable time and money worrying about the maintenance issues of having to replace flat or damaged tyres. The brushless hub motor also requires less maintenance than its counterpart – the chain motor.

Known Issues

None.

Is this E-Scooter value for money and is it worth buying?

For an entry level scooter, the Razor A 5 is value for money at $239.99 or £172.89.
