Ninebot Segway E45E Summary
Built for style, safety, comfort, and flexibility, the Ninebot Segway E45E is every electric scooter enthusiasts’ dream, featuring a straightforward design that is easy to assemble and operate.
Strapped against the handle stem is a 368W battery pack that churns out an impressive 300W of power to keep you going for up to 28 miles on a single charge. Moreover, you get three riding modes: (1) the Eco mode, which gives you a maximum 28 miles (45 km) driving range (capped at 12.4 mph / 20 km/h); (2) the Standard mode, for a perfect balance between speed and battery performance (at a maximum speed of 15.5 mph / 25 km/h); and (3) the Sport mode to easily get over up to 20% inclines.
When it comes to safety, few can hold a candle to the E45E. The electric scooter comes fitted with a three brake system; an electronic regenerative front brake, and a magnetic rear one, all working independently to ensure that you stop when you need to. Additionally, the scooter comes fitted with 2.5W front, rear, and brake E-Mark certified LED lights to give you greater visibility at night.
For the more expressive riders, the scooter comes fixed with a colour-adjustable ambient lighting at the bottom of the footboard. An LED display in the middle of the handlebar displays information on speed, remaining battery life, ride mode, and Bluetooth connectivity for firmware upgrades. The Bluetooth-paired Segway Ninebot app allows you to view crucial information such as distance travelled, remaining battery power, and average speed.
Most scooters in this category have their battery attached to the footboard, resulting in a low ride and occasional chipping while riding on uneven surfaces. The Ninebot E45E electric scooter is built different though. Its handlebar stem battery attachment design gives the electric scooter a higher but balanced ride, ensuring a smooth ride even over uneven surfaces. This design, coupled with the nine-inch non-pneumatic tyres and front suspension, provides value in terms of durability and an unrivalled ergonomic experience.
Finally, the single-push folding system makes for easy storage and transportation, despite its weight.
Performance Overview:
The 368W battery onboard the E45E electric scooter packs a punch and delivers when you need it to. Thanks to its three ride modes and a cruise control option, riders have flexibility and control.
Eco-mode provides the maximum range of 28 miles (45 km) at a reasonable speed of 12.4 mph (20 km/h). For higher speed and longer battery life, switch to Standard mode to attain speeds of up to 15.5 mph (25 km/h). In Sports mode, the battery pack works at full capacity to easily take riders over up to 20% inclines.
Top Speed & Acceleration
The E45E electric scooter maxes out at 15.5 mph (25 km/h), which is pretty impressive by any standard. The 300W motor power provides smooth acceleration on flat surfaces and inclines.
Even on a drained battery, the motor still produces effortless acceleration. User reviews also suggest the acceleration and handling remain steady—even for riders who exceed the maximum weight capacity (100 kg / 220 lbs).
Battery Life & Range
While there is not enough data on the full lifespan of the Ninebot Segway E45E’s battery life is expected to last; judging by the company’s history of battery development and smart battery management systems, we can safely assume that the unit fitted on this scooter will stand the test of time.
The battery takes about 7.5 hours to fully charge—quite a long time, given current technological advancements. The range on a full charge is 28 miles (45 km), which is more than sufficient for the average user—even in sports mode.
Motor Configuration
While the Ninebot Kickscooter E45E is not the most powerful electric scooter you will find on the market, it’s strong enough to carry riders up to 100 kg (220 lbs) quite comfortably, thanks to its 300W motor that is powered by a 368W battery.
In our test ride, we found the torque it produces is more than enough to cruise seamlessly across diverse terrains.
Construction & Build Quality
Sitting on nine-inch dual-density non-pneumatic tyres, the raised footboard provides a sturdy yet versatile feel. A set of shock absorbers fitted to the front stem, ensures comfort and stability while riding over bumpy surfaces.
The frame is tough as nails, and is constructed out of Aircraft grade aluminium alloy.
The single-push fold mechanism is a clever design that counters the mobility issues from its extra weight. Overall, the Ninebot E45E electric scooter build provides a firm, balanced and comfortable ride to seasoned and new riders alike.
Deck
One of the highlight features of this e-scooter is its wide deck.
For starters, it is comfortable to stand on both feet, and strong enough to support weights of up to 100 kg (220 lbs.).
There’s a customisable ambient lighting from the deck’s underside and a couple of LED tail lights on each side that helps to highlight the area at night.
Tyres
The E45E electric scooter comes fitted with 9 inch, dual-density, flat-free/no-puncture tyres, that provide the same feel as their pneumatic counterparts. Thanks to their dual-density design, the grip and ride are smooth even on rough surfaces while they also guarantee durability and comfort.
Suspension
The Ninebot Segway E45E features only one front shock absorber, and for this we think the manufacturer could have done better. Even so, the electric scooter’s nine-inch form-filled tyres help to provide a smooth ride over uneven terrain.
Braking
As stated earlier, the efficiency of the brake system on the Ninebot E45E electric scooter is second to none. Created with an emphasis on user safety, this electric scooter comes fitted with an electronic and regenerative front brake, and a rear magnetic brake, both working independently to produce the shortest braking distance possible.
Ride Quality
For a comparatively tall scooter, the ride is surprisingly comfortable. The front-wheel suspension, together with the dual-density non-pneumatic tyres, provides the same feel as air-filled tyres on both flat and rough surfaces, making for a smooth ride.
The weight from the battery unit on the handle provides the scooter with much-needed balance.
The footboard is layered with a dimple-textured rubber surface for maximum grip—even if you’re not wearing rubber soles.
Portability
At 36.2 pounds (16.4 kg), the Ninebot E45E can be somewhat burdensome when carried for long distances. However, the single-fold mechanism and the overall design allows riders multiple options for easy transport.
Despite its weight, the Segway E45E’s clever design negates the need to carry it, as you can also easily fold and drag it.
Lights
A bright 2.5W front light will ensure that your visibility is never compromised, even on the darkest of streets. On the side and rear, the revered E-mark reflectors provide much-needed visibility at night.
This e-scooter even comes with a colour-adjustable ambient mood light on the bottom of the footboard, that will turn heads as you cruise back home after a day at the office.
Controls & Display
The easy-to-operate LED control in the middle of the handlebar displays remaining battery charge, speed, ride mode, and Bluetooth connectivity.
We also liked that the super-handy Companion App which provides useful data such as mileage, average speed and current remaining distance.
Water Resistance
The Ninebot E45E has an IPX4 water-resistance rating, which means it’s highly unlikely that its components will be affected by splashing as you ride around.
However, please note that elongated use in the rain or soggy environments may damage your scooter. Additionally, the warranty on this product does not cover water damage. As such, you are better off shelving it on rainy days.
Reliability, Warranty & Customer Support
Nothing defines reliability better than the Ninebot E45E electric scooter. A 28-mile (45 km) range means you never have to worry about running out of juice during your daily commute. Besides, a sturdy frame, dual-density form-filled tyres, a front shock absorber, the three braking systems are enough to give you the confidence to head out without worries.
Riders are guaranteed service longevity from the powerful 368W battery and 300W motor. Unlike most scooters in its category, the battery is strapped to the handlebar stem, thereby raising the footboard which prevents chipping and increases durability.
Like all Ninebot Segway electric scooters, the E45E comes with a standard 1-year warranty from the date of purchase. Some key components covered here are the battery and all electronics. The warranty doesn’t cover the brake parts and tyres as well as any damage that may arise from water ingress or normal use.
Maintenance
One of the key selling points of the Ninebot E45E is its minimal maintenance. The dual-density non-pneumatic tyres guarantee maintenance-free years of usage. Similarly, the high-seated footboard prevents under-board chipping, so you never need to worry about the board wearing out.
As with any mechanical device, always remember to grease the moving parts and keep bolts and screws tightened.
Additionally, as a safety precaution with any mobility device, always check your brakes before you set off.
Known Issues
During the entire period we were testing this scooter, we didn’t spot any obvious flaw or recurring issue worth reporting. We also scoured a few forums and social platforms to see if we could find any reported defects.
It is safe to say that the quality of this scooter is unquestionable, and you can expect to enjoy a fuss-free experience with it. Should any issues arise in the future though, we’ll surely update this review so that you can know about it here first.
