Summary

This electric scooter has a lot to offer with its key points being the range that the Hiboy S2 Pro offers and also the tyres and the rear shock absorbers helping to enhance your ride. The new and improved battery enables you to travel for up to 25 miles and when riding in ‘sport mode’ – you can reach speeds of 19 mph!

This scooter really does have everything to offer and they’ve thought about all aspects of the design with it being IP54 rated and also having cruise control.

Performance Overview

The Hiboy S2 Pro electric scooter is beginner-friendly and is known for its sturdiness. It also offers an outstanding value for money thanks to its portability and the “lifetime technical support”. Hiboy products are also known for their excellent customer reviews and generous discounts in most of their product categories.

The manufacturer of the Hiboy S2 Pro also included an optional seat attachment that cost an additional $70. This feature is handy, especially when going on a long drive to or from work, since you get to have a smooth and comfortable ride.

Top Speed & Acceleration

Based on Hiboy’s spec sheets, the S2 Pro can reach a top speed of 30.6 kilometres per hour (kph) or 19 mph. However, these numbers can go a bit higher if you remove the factory speed limit.

Some factors such as the road conditions, the amount of battery life left, and the rider’s weight can also influence its speed.

The Hiboy S2 Pro is decently agile and can easily hit 0-24 kph (15 mph) in 6.2 seconds. That might be a bit underwhelming compared to its more expensive counterparts, but it’s quite an outstanding feat considering its price point.

Moreover, the rider can also choose between two-speed settings: Comfort and Sport. The scooter also has cruise control which brings an extra level of ease and comfort to their ride.

Controls & Display

The S2 Pro comes with an LED dashboard which many riders love due to how it operates and the simplicity of the effective design. Many love it as it looks super sleek and stylish which definitely matches what this scooter has to offer.

I clearly shows users their speed and also it has a batter image on the display so you can never get caught out with no charge! And not only this – it also shows you when you have cruise control on too.

Battery Life & Range

Hiboy advertises the S2 Pro’s max range at 40 kilometres (25 miles). However, that’s often the best-case scenario, and several factors could lessen the likelihood of hitting such numbers. The rider’s weight, the scooter’s speed, and the driving technique could affect its range.

Meanwhile, that range is on the acceptable range if you want to use it for your daily commute. If your office is within 15 kilometres from your home, you can make the roundabout route just fine. It’s also important to note that the scooter can climb gradual inclines of 15 degrees or less.

Motor Configuration

The Hiboy S2 Pro uses a brushless motor and lithium-ion 36 v batteries to propel it forward. It also uses an intelligent battery life management system to limit its top speed using the Hiboy S2 app.

When riding, the S2 Pro’s motor produces a gentle hum that is common among smaller scooters.

Construction & Build Quality

The Hiboy S2 is known for its reliable and solid parts. Its build quality is more than decent, and the finishing touch gives it an air of a more expensive scooter. There are hardly any flimsy, loose, moving, or wiggling parts.

Furthermore, the muscular frame can withstand several dumps and hits without warping or denting. If the scooter gets damaged, it is covered with a 12-month warranty. Most of the frame is also sealed and has some capabilities to resist water.

Moreover, during our test, we found no reliability issues with this scooter. Other reviewers and current owners have very few concerns in this department. Among the problems raised are the protruding brake cables.

However, since the cables are neatly placed alongside the stem, this does not significantly affect its overall reliability.

Suspension

The Hiboy S2 Pro is one of the few units in its price range to offer dual spring rear suspension. This feature is quite handy when taking on full potholes and other road debris as it can easily absorb the vibrations and shocks of such obstacles.

You can also adjust the suspension to fit your specific needs and ride comfort. Moreover, the scooter has a modest ground clearance allowing about half an inch of travel for the suspension.

Ride Quality

These budget scooters offer a comfortable ride thanks to their rear dual shock absorbers. It handles well in most road-driving conditions and is pretty capable of taking corners aggressively.

However, since these electric scooters use solid tires, you can feel a bit of the vibration run through your wrists and knees whenever you approach their max speed.

The addition of the cruise control function is a welcome addition as it gives your thumb rest while you concentrate on the view around you. Furthermore, the Hiboy S2 pro electric scooter model also has different ride settings such as Comfort mode and Sport mode, setting your speed limit.

Braking

The S2 Pro uses a disc brake in the rear wheel and an electronic brake on the front wheel. The scooter has built-in regenerative braking. This design allows the scooter to have excellent stopping power. You can also customise the responsiveness of the electric brakes using the Hiboy app.

When either brake is used, it will activate the rear brake light while disengaging cruise control. The lever for the electronic brake has a thumb pad located on the inner part of the handlebar next to the throttle. However, the electronic brake isn’t ideal for stopping quickly.

For emergency braking, you can pull the handbrake lever, which will activate both brakes simultaneously. You can even lock the rear tire using this method, allowing you to slide the back end of your ride around corners.

Portability

You can find the folding mechanism at the base of the stem, which has a straightforward design. To fold it, you have to slide up the metal tab and pull the latch forward. There’s a hook on the fender where you can lock the bars and secure them while being in the folded position.

The locking mechanism is pretty stable, allowing the scooter’s easy carriage using only one hand. The Hellboy S2 Pro weighs around 16.3 kilograms and has a smaller profile than some of its competitors. Thanks to its portability, you can even carry it around the bus or store it under your desk at work.

However, you might need to tighten or adjust the latch bolts to ensure they keep everything together.

Water Resistance

The Hiboy S2 Pro’s water resistance is rated at IP4. The rating indicates that the scooter has some protection against splashes coming from all angles. They also can’t be submerged in waters that are one meter deep for more than 30 minutes.

Lights

The Hiboy S2 Pro is evident on the road when you take it for a spin at night. The stem houses the lower end of the sufficiently front solid headlight, illuminating a distance of up to 18 feet.

Meanwhile, bright LED strips highlighted by the deck’s sides serve as positional lights and dramatically improve its aesthetics. The scooter’s rear end also comes with a red brake light which turns on whenever you engage its brakes.

Tyres

While Hiboy advertises that their S2 Pro’s solid rubber tires are 10-inches in diameter, it’s actually about 9.5-inches. They might have rounded it off for easier size reference. Rubber tyres are great since they are sturdier and won’t get flat like pneumatic tyres.

However, solid tyres are also known to be rigid and slick. Hiboy addressed this issue by adding holes on the tyres sidewalls, allowing under impact and a grippier feel. Additionally, it doesn’t require the occasional tyres pressure check that you do to pneumatic tyres.

Deck

The Hiboy S2 Pro houses a 36 volt, 11.4 Ah battery conveniently placed on the deck. The 17.5-inch by 6-inch deck is a bit narrow compared to other scooters in the mid-range category. Hence, it could feel a bit comfortable for people with feet size 12 or larger.

This design translates to better riding quality and responsiveness. The deck also has a grippy surface which helps prevent the rider’s feet from slipping. Additionally, you can attach a stock seat to the deck.

Reliability, Warranty & Customer Support

The scooter comes will 12 months warranty and this will cover any kind of defect you happen to encounter from when you first purchased it. This is only covered when ordering direct from Hiboy so before purchasing – you might want to double check the warranty you’ll get if buying from somewhere else.

Should you have any issues or questions about the scooter, then Hiby has an email address that customers can use and they promise a reply within 24 hours. Although – some have stated this isn’t always the case.

One thing that all riders love about these electric scooters is the app that you can use. It allows you to lock the scooter (or check if you can’t remember), turn your lights on and off amongst other really handy features!

Maintenance

The only maintenance issues to look out for in the future once they arise are from the batteries when the charge cycle depletes, the grip tape when it starts to peel off, and the wheels once they start to degenerate.

Known Issues

Hiboy has a 30-day money-back guarantee promise on top of a 12-month warranty on parts if you ever find any issue. They also offer lifetime technical support and ship parts should they break.

The S2 Pro is a tough e-scooter with shallow defect and breakdown rates. However, you still need to tighten its screws and perform other preventive maintenance once a month to prolong its lifespan.

Accessories

Hiboy also added a stock seat which you can slide on the post hole of the deck and can be secured by tightening a hex screw on its end. Riding the scooter in a seating position will take a bit of getting used to until you get comfortable.

The S2 Pro scooter also has a kickstand that keeps the scooter upright.

Is this Electric Scooter value for money and is it worth buying?

The Hiboy S2 Pro is a budget-friendly electric scooter that gives you more bang for your buck. It’s got some of the bells and whistles that you often see in more expensive units. You can use it for daily commuting as it’s pretty portable and easy to store.

It’s a significant upgrade from the S2 as it offers more range and better overall performance. However, you also are getting what you paid for as it does not have any off-road functionality. But, if you want a scooter that won’t leave a hole in your pockets, then this one surely won’t disappoint.
