Lightweight and relatively maintenance-free, the Dualtron Raptor 2 is one of the best high-performance electric scooters with a top speed of 37 mph and 37 miles.
When the Dualtron Raptor was released in 2018, it was one of the bestselling scooters, laying a good foundation for later released models such as the Dualtron Thunder, Ultra, Compact and the Spider. Unfortunately, with the release of these models integrating modern features, the Raptor fell from its glory thanks to its now obsolete features.
In 2020, Dualtron decided to bring back the Raptor memories by releasing a modern version-The Dualtron Raptor 2. The Raptor 2 is a massive upgrade to the original Raptor, coming with modern electric scooter features such as an LCD Eye Throttle, stem lighting and an anti-lock brake system (ABS). Besides, it’s pretty lightweight and requires low maintenance, thanks to the non-pneumatic tyres.

Dualtron Raptor 2 – The Lowdown
Let’s kick it back to the dinosaur age. When T-rex showed up, it was game time- and unquestionably so. It would have been easy to dismiss the raptors that stood at a fraction of T-rex’s height and were not nearly as ferocious looking. Bad judgement call! If you’re used to the mean-looking Dualtron models, the Thunder, the Lightning, the Storm, then you may be wondering what right this weaker looking scooter has to hold the mighty Dualtron name. Rest assured, the Raptor 2 is a classic case of “don’t mistake kindness for weakness.”
The Raptor 2 is a high-performing electric scooter that conforms to the Dualtron standards. The original Raptor laid the foundation for the success of its predecessors. Still, with the rapidly evolving technology and innovation in the electric scooter market, it’s no surprise that the Raptor quickly fell into the shadows, almost nearing extinction. But MiniMotors always gets it right! A few tweaks here and there, and they knew that they could bring back the Raptor to reclaim its glory days- though not outdo its extreme-performing, top-of-the-line brothers.
With a few extra hollow bits in the frame, the scooter is more lightweight than most other high performing dual-motor e scooters. It also packs a punch with its impressive top speed, smooth acceleration and adequate range. It is both a performance and fun commuter ride- which appeals to the entry-level riders or more mature riders that just enjoy the convenience and environmental-friendly nature of PEVs. The ride is comfortable with dual suspensions and gives you a worry-free ride with the solid tyres.
The Raptor 2 doesn’t come cheap at an estimated £1,140.10/ $2000 but still offers excellent value for money- with MiniMotors leveraging the latest technology for its construction. So let’s dig into its specs, features and more details.

Besides, the scooter is lightweight and amazingly portable-just great for urban environments. Let’s delve deeper into the scooter’s impressive specs.
Top Speed & Acceleration
With a top speed of 37 mph (60 Km/h), the Raptor 2 is among the fastest entry-level dual-motor powerful scooters. Its top speed is sufficient to enable you to keep up with traffic and enjoy a thrilling ride. Better still, the scooter has a brutally steep acceleration curve, providing a feeling of adrenaline rush for both novice and experienced riders. However, it’s crucial for novice riders to maintain the speed at a minimum or employ cruise control to remain safe.
The Raptor’s acceleration is similar to the Dualtron Thunder up to 8 mph. I am talking about hitting 8 mph in less than 1.5 seconds. The Raptor 2’s acceleration is safe and super smooth, making it suitable for beginners.
Controls & Display
The Dualtron Raptor 2 has several controls and an intuitive LCD display, giving you full control over the scooter. The left handlebar consists of two control buttons: The driving mode selection button for activating/deactivating the Eco/Turbo mode and the motor system selection button for engaging or disengaging the second motor.
The electronic brake lever is found on the left side of the handlebar, with the display on the right handlebar. The controls are conveniently placed on the cockpit allowing easy reachability and consequently scooter control even at high speeds.
The Raptor 2 is fitted with the new EYE LCD ver. 3(Ey3) -a sleek-looking display attached to an index finger-throttle. By separating the existing two-button combination type with an independent three buttons, the MiniMotor’s 3rd-generation EYE throttle allows intuitive and quick operations. The LCD display keeps you informed on various aspects of the scooter, such as the current speed, % of battery left, trip distance, and motor mode (Eco, normal or turbo)
The Ey3 gives you full control over the scooter, encompassing the throttle, mode button, power button and setting button. As such, it gives you convenient access to several options such as cruise control, rear electric brakes, auto-off, motor output and soft start, among others. There’s also an optional fingerprint to unlock your scooter using fingerprints.
Battery Life & Range
The Raptor 2 is fitted with 60 volt – 18.2 Ah – 1,092Wh – Li-ion Power cells providing an impressive 37 miles (60Km) range. The 37 miles range is possible on Eco mode, single motor and the lowest riding gear. You should expect a lower range at full performance, more than 20 miles, which is still decent. In essence, the range depends on your riding styles, terrain and weight, among other factors.
The Dualtron Raptor 2 battery takes up to 9 hours to fully charge when charging using a standard charger. That’s really a long time for a scooter with 37 miles of range. Fortunately, you’ve got the option to shorten the charge time to just 4.5 hours with two standard chargers or 2.8 hours using a quick charger. It’s highly recommendable to get a fast charger to lower the charging time for enhanced convenience.
Motor Configuration
The Dualtron Raptor 2 is fitted with two 1500W motors in the front and rear wheel. The motors churn out a combined 3000W peak power, providing insane torque. With so much power, the scooter offers riders plenty of options to regulate it. Depending on how much power they may require, riders can either employ a single motor or dual motor via the push of a button.
Besides, you can choose to ride in Eco mode-lower power for smooth city cruising and prolonged range-or Turbo mode for maximum power. The motor’s configuration can be customised to meet your specific power requirements.
Construction & Build Quality
The Dualtron Raptor 2 features an extremely solid and rugged build without the ugly beefy look synonymous with powerful electric scooters. The scooter appears sleek, attractive and modern; it indeed turns heads. MiniMotors has a good reputation for the build quality of their scooters, and the Raptor 2 is no exception.
The scooter is constructed with premium materials ensuring maximum durability. The scooter’s frame is made with 6082-T6 aluminium alloy, ensuring the scooter remains lightweight plus offers maximum steadiness. The shaft is SCM440 steel and offers exceptional handling. The shaft metal is 30-50% thinner than other Dualtron models to keep weight at a minimum.
The scooter’s curved handlebars are covered with ultra-light carbon fibre and polypropylene plastic materials with rubber gripping at the ends, ensuring maximum control and comfort when riding. The scooter also features front and rear plastic fenders that keep splashes and debris from the riders’ feet.
Overall, the Raptor 2 has an excellent build quality to withstand abuse and unforgiving weather conditions. The scooter feels sturdy even at high speeds, assuring riders of safety and durability.
Suspension
The Dualtron Raptor comes with the same suspension as the Dualtron Spider and the Eagle Pro. The scooter features rear and front 15-step adjustable rubber suspension, providing sufficient shock absorption that tries to counter the shortcomings of the small solid tyres. The suspensions can seamlessly be adjusted by switching between five different rubber cartridge types and tuning their height. You can choose from ultra-soft to extra hard suspensions depending on your weight, terrain, riding style etc.
While the scooter’s rubber suspension absorbs most of the shocks, facilitating a smooth and comfortable ride, it’s still below the scooter industry-standard spring suspensions. It’s also cumbersome to remove and replace the rubber cartridge every time you want to change the suspension strength.
Ride Quality
Despite the small 8×3-inch solid tyres, the Raptor 2 still manages to offer comfortable rides on typical urban terrains. The front and rear 15-step adjustable suspension compensate for the small tyres, providing some riding comfort. Nonetheless, the ride quality would have been much better if MiniMotors had used bigger and wider tyres-maybe 10 or 11-inch tyres as with the most powerful scooters.
The expansive deck lined with grip tape ensures stability as the rider cruises the riding track. Additionally, the stem on the Raptor 2 is relatively wobble-free, and coupled with the ergonomic design of the rubberised handlebars, the handling on this scooter is a breeze. Night riding is facilitated by the scooter’s lighting profile, making the scooter visible to oncoming and trailing traffic. However, the scooter lacks a horn as an essential safety feature and is not waterproof, limiting rides to dry weather conditions.
Braking
For braking, the Raptor 2 is fitted with a powerful braking system encompassing regenerative electric rear drum brake and rear and front electric brake with ABS standard. The rear drum brake and ABS are operated via the brake lever on the left handgrip, which is very reactive and sensitive. You can gently press the brake lever to reduce the speed or bring the scooter to a slow stop. For emergency stops, you need to pull the brake lever with strength.
The ABS prevents the wheel from locking and skidding during an emergency, conferring additional safety. You also get the luxury of adjusting the strength of the front and rear electric brakes via the EYE throttle display panel. The scooter’s electric brake offers extra braking power, making the brakes more precise and shortening the braking distance. Better still, the electric brake is regenerative, meaning your battery recharges every time you brake, prolonging the range.
With such a hybrid braking system, it’s no secret that the Raptor 2 is one of the safest powerful electric scooters when it comes to stopping power. You won’t have to put up with freaky mechanical disc brakes or hydraulic brakes, which can fail anytime.
Portability
The Raptor 2 excels when it comes to portability owing to its lightweight and folding design. Once folded, a locking clasp secures the stem to the deck, allowing ease in carrying. Besides, the scooter folds down to a compact package weighing only 50 lbs (22.6 Kg). As such, the scooter can easily be carried upstairs, transported in the back of your car boot or stored in compact spaces.
The Raptor 2 is one of the most portable, high-performance electric scooters. You can consider it if you’re seeking a powerful scooter for your last-mile commute.
Water Resistance
Like most Dualtron scooters, the Raptor 2 is not water-proof. Therefore, you’ll want to avoid riding it in wet conditions or exposing the electric devices to water or liquid when washing the scooter-preferably wipe it down with a damp cloth. Considering that there are cheaper models with IP ratings, the Raptor 2 doesn’t offer value with regard to water resistance capability.
Lights
If you’re thinking of riding the Dualtron at night, you can comfortably do so. The Raptor 2 features a full set of lights encompassing a dual LED headlight, taillight and brake light. The headlight offers optimum front visibility while the taillight and brake lights keep you visible from the rear, alerting people when you engage any of the three brakes.
The scooter also features the signature Dualtron LED strip lining the step. The stem lighting adds to the scooter’s visibility at night, plus makes it look stylish- one of the greatest differentiators between this scooter and the original Raptor. You can customise the LED stem lighting using a convenient remote that comes with the scooter. For enhanced front visibility, you’ll want to mount an extra headlight at the stem.
Tyres
The Raptor 2 tyres are smaller compared to most powerful dual motor electric scooters. The scooter features 8” non-pneumatic (solid) tyres. The small, solid tyres of the Raptor 2 compromises its ride quality as it offers insufficient dampening due to high rigidity.
However, solid tyres are not susceptible to puncture and don’t need any maintenance, providing plenty of benefits to users. Nonetheless, the small tyres certainly don’t help much in ensuring smooth and comfortable rides. They are not the best for off-road terrains or damaged urban roads.
Deck
The Dualtron Raptor 2 comes with the characteristic spacious all-black Dualtron Deck featuring two runs of grip tape and the company’s logo at the centre. The deck is pretty expansive, providing sufficient room for placing your feet. It offers great balance and safety thanks to the anti-slip stripes. A retractable kickstand is attached to the deck, ensuring seamless parking.
Reliability, Warranty & Customer Support
By just being a MiniMotor scooter, the Raptor 2 is reliable owing to the reputation these scooters have developed over time. The Raptor 2 offers desired performance, good range, great gradeability and still manages to remain lightweight and portable.
It comes with a 1-year warranty, which doesn’t cover normal tear and wear or damage caused by water or liquids. MiniMotors has friendly customer support easily accessible via email address or phone. In case you’re having any issue with your Raptor 2 scooter, you are guaranteed excellent customer care services.
Maintenance
The Raptor 2’s non-pneumatic tyres and rear drum brake makes it a low maintenance scooter, highly suitable for the urban environment. Nonetheless, you’ll still need to maintain the scooter just like any other device. Some common maintenance practices you can do on the scooter include:
- Wipe the scooter before storing it.
- Check the replacement timing of consumable parts such as the hinge bolt, battery, steering tube, handle stem, locking slide etc.
- Check out and replace scooter parts that may have been damaged by external environments.
- Routinely tighten the brake pads as they tend to become loose with time.
- Charge the scooter using only the recommended chargers.
Known Issues
MiniMotors did a lot to improve the Raptor 2 from the original version, but the scooter still has areas they could improve. The lack of an angled foothold that allows riders to comfortably rest their foot when riding. The lack of this feature makes riders put pressure on the rear fender and easily damage it.
Is this Electric Scooter value for money and is it worth buying?
Whether you decide to buy the Raptor 2 is up to you, but it’s worth your consideration. Beyond a few shortcomings, this scooter offers plenty of value with its good performance and impressive range.
It even has excellent braking! Above all else, best-in-class portability helps make this an irresistible purchase for any reluctant buyer who wants something convenient they can take anywhere that will still get them where they need when on the go. Besides, it comes with modern features, notably ABS braking and the new EYE LCD ver. 3 display giving you ultimate control of the scooter.
In summary, the scooter is worth every penny.
