LG electronics manufacture the powerful battery. It uses Lithium-ion technology that is powerful and ensures the battery has a long life and can deliver consistent power for years. However, the battery takes considerably longer to charge-it takes 4-20 to charge fully. It takes 20 hours with a standard 1.75A charger, 10 hours with two standard 1.75A chargers, 5.3 hours with the quick 6.5A charger, and 4 hours when you combine a fast charger with the standard charger.

The frame and handle are constructed from aviation-grade aluminium alloy and ultralight carbon fibre. The frame has passed the stringent CTI test, ensuring its durability. The shaft is crafted from SCM 440, 6082-T6, which gives it an extra degree of durability. The cables are hidden internally to protect them from any damage. Other Dualtron models are known to have wobbling stems, but that’s not the case with the Achilleus. The rider can adjust the suspension in 45 different positions based on the riding style. These adjustments can be made by:

• Altering the distance to the motor, which offers three varying positions- high, intermediate and low.
• Adjusting the angle of the suspension arm between 3 positions

Ride Quality

The Achilleus scooter delivers a very smooth ride quality thanks to its large wheels and well-designed suspension system. The scooter has dual front and rear adjustable suspension with rubber cartridge systems that provide a comfortable ride. The tyres absorb bumps and surface irregularities, making the riding experience enjoyable for the rider.

The scooter is also effortless to control due to its lightweight construction and agile turning radius. The large tyres significantly improve handling by increasing the scooter’s steering stability. For increased riding stability, riders can also purchase a steering damper as an add-on. 

In addition, the lengthy deck with a dedicated footrest ensures that the rider’s feet are comfortably positioned when riding. At the same time, the high clearance works to reduce impacts with minor bumps and surface irregularities. The deck has sandpaper grip tape coatings to ensure that you stay firmly planted on the scooter as you speed along.

The handgrips are rubberised and ergonomically designed to ensure a comfortable grip. They are also contoured, so they support the wrist in a comfortable position. At an extra cost, you can get a seat which is ideal for longer cruises. 

Lights

The Dualtron Achilleus has an exemplary lighting system for night travel. It features LED lighting on the sides of the deck, stem and rear. The scooter is fitted with front and rear LED lighting placed at the deck while the stoplights and brake light are embedded on the footrest. It comes with a dedicated remote to adjust, turn off the lights or play around with the colours.

Braking

The Dualtron Achilleus scooter also has a dynamic braking system. It is fitted with Zoom, front and rear hydraulic brakes with an electric ABS brake system that significantly enhances its performance.

This is one of the first electric scooters to sport ABS. ABS braking is not very common in electric scooters and comes in handy when riding off-road and in wet road conditions. The Achilleus electric scooter folds into a compact size; the handlebar can be folded down for easy storage. The scooter folds to 125 x 27.5 x 56 cm (L x W x H). All you have to do is fold the handlebar, unscrew the QR lever forward, fold the stem towards the deck while you raise the locking slide. Then you can latch to the handlebar hook. 

Tyres

The Achilleus rolls on massive 11-inch Ultra-wide tubeless tyres that ensure riders enjoy a smooth and comfortable ride. A tubeless tyre reduces the risk of flat tires and blowouts. The scooter uses “never flat” technology. The tyres are filled with slime making them resistant to punctures and leaks, but they can easily be replaced.

The tyres roll fairly effortlessly thanks to their wide design, making riding much more comfortable for people who would like to use them on long journeys. The large wheels ensure that the scooter experiences less vibration when used on bumpy roads or surfaces. Further, you can spot control buttons on the left end of the steering column, which are used when changing riding modes and activating warning lights.

The signature EYE3 LCD is on the right handlebar with an integrated index finger controlled throttle, adding to the scooter’s aesthetics. The index-controlled throttle offers a natural accelerator control to the riders. Water Resistance

Maintenance

• Check the direction of your wheels to ensure they are in line with each other. If they aren’t, you will need to get this fixed by an authorised dealer.
• Check for error messages on the display.
• Clean your scooter regularly by wiping it clean with a damp cloth.
• Keep checking for any loose hardware or components on either side of the steering wheel, the handlebars and folding parts. Tighten all bolts to prevent any injury while riding the scooter. You should also tighten the bolts on the wheels and the foot deck if they come loose.
• Check all of your scooter’s safety features to ensure that they are intact before riding.
• Charge the lithium battery as required by following instructions in the User Manual under the Charging Section.

Dualtron Achilleus: Is it worth the money and is it worth buying?

What’s your first impression of an e-scooter tagged at £2500/ $3400? That’s much for a scooter? Well, the Dualtron Achilleus is not your run of the mill electric scooter. This scooter was designed to ride fast, long, comfortably and without compromising on safety. With custom parts such as the Zoom brakes and LG battery, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a scooter as well-designed as the Achilleus. 

The scooter follows the Dualtron standards of quality and is highly reliable. The scooter will carry heavy riders and go up steeper inclines than most scooters in this price range will manage. While its heavy-duty components add to its weight affecting portability, the scooter is foldable, thus easy to transport and store. The super-capacity battery also takes a whopping 20 hours to charge, with the workaround of using a fast charger and standard charger to cut that time to 4 hours. 

All in all, this scooter is the one to watch out for in 2022. It is definitely worth the investment as a commuting scooter for weekdays while chasing adventures over the weekends.
