8 August 2024

Designed with a sporty spirit, the Aprilia eSR2 Evo e-scooter hits an impressive top speed of 15.5 mph (25km/h) with a range of up to 15.5 miles.

The Aprilia eSR2 Evo is the evolution of the hugely popular eSR2 and comes with a substantial improvement in terms of power, design, overall performance, and add-on features. With a design that tips a cap to its motorbike associates, Aprilia has launched an e-scooter for serious urban riders. The sleek, eye-catching design is capped with a premium build quality which points to excellent craftsmanship and top-notch engineering. The eSR2 may be a little heavy to carry but is compact enough when folded for seamless storage. You’ll also appreciate the ultra-smooth ride quality coupled with state-of-the-art features that streamlines the overall scooting experience.

Aprilia eSR2 Evo: The Lowdown…

From Jeep to Ducati and now Aprilia, major motorcycle and automobile manufacturers are slowly making their mark in the world of e-scooters with the release of premium commuting e-scooters. While some market experts claim that the foray of these companies into the scooter world serves as some sort of a trial phase for the upcoming boom of full-size electric motorcycles, the fact is that these companies are redefining the scooter space.

Like the Ducati, which launched its urban mobility line with Pro-III being the latest release, the Aprilia has not been left out in the e-scooter revolution. The Italian company has its electric scooter line, with the sport eSR2 Evo e-scooter being the latest release. The new Aprilia eSR2 EVO electric scooter is part of the line of light vehicles born from the license agreement between the Noale brand and MT Distribution. The eSR2 reinvigorates the sporting spirit of Noale’s Racing Department with a more powerful performance engine and battery.

The company claims that the eSR2 Evo incorporates Aprilia’s racing DNA to the urban mobility segment, and from Evo’s design and performance, it’s clear to see why. The eSR2 Evo sports a sleek design with classic Aprilia colours, similar to what we see in the Aprilia RS-GP MotoGP racing machine. The flashy exterior assimilates the presence of the Aprilia bikes, which are hugely successful in the motorbike scene.

The eSR2 Evo is an improvement of its predecessor, the eSR2. They both share the same design concept and a similar top speed, but there’s a significant difference in some of the key features.

Key Differences Between eSR2 and eSR2 Evo

  • The eSR2 Evo has an increased capacity 48V 14.4Ah 691Wh battery, while that one of the eSR2 is rated at 36V 8.0Ah 288Wh.

  • Naturally, there’s a difference in range. The eSR2 Evo can go for up to 35 Kms, while the eSR2 can only go 25 Kms.

  • The eSR2 Evo’s battery has a higher charge time.

  • The eSR2 Evo weighs 21 Kgs, while the eSR2 weighs just 18.5 Kgs, probably due to the smaller battery.

  • The eSR2 Evo is propelled by a 500W motor, while the eSR2 has a 350 W motor

  • The eSR2 Evo obviously costs more.

Overall, the eSR2 Evo promises unmatched performance to meet the urban commuter needs. Read on for a detailed review of the eSR2 Pro and determine whether it can streamline your hectic daily commutes.

Aprilia eSR2 Evo Summary

The Aprilia eSR2 Evo is an improvement of the eSR2 and a road racer to watch out for, thanks to a more powerful, high-performing motor and battery. The scooter is driven by a 500W brushless motor and powered by an impressive 48V 14.4Ah 691 Wh battery. The battery, which charges in under 7 hours, guarantees an impressive range of up to 21.74 miles(35 Km) subject to a set of conditions, including riding terrain, speed, and rider’s weight. The scooter features 3-speed levels: ECO mode runs at 6 km / h, D at 20 km / h, and S+ at the maximum of 25 km / h and can climb slopes with a maximum incline of up to 24%.

The eSR2 Evo incorporates a sleek, aerodynamic design to prevent drag and enhance acceleration and range. The scooter has been tastefully constructed with aluminium alloy and sports classic Aprilia colours, similar to what we see in the Aprilia RS-GP MotoGP racing bikes. The design that is typical of an Italian brand has distinct black, white, and red color accents that convey the reputation of the Aprilia brand. What’s more, the premium aluminum alloy construction makes the scooter both lightweight and robust enough to hold riders weighing up to 220lbs.

The Aprilia eSR2 Evo e-scooter achieves top-notch comfort thanks to the combination of a dual (front and rear) suspension system and 10-inch wheels, which dampen road irregularities making the ride pretty smooth. For added comfort, the eSR2 Evo e-scooter is fitted with a telescopic front fork-a feature not commonly found on scooters of this calibre. Additionally, the wheels are supported by a double damping system located on both the rear and front wheels for optimal handling. The deck is also extensive and offers a smooth anti-slip surface for better support.

When you have to break, the eSR2 Evo offers you a double braking system featuring a front drum brake and rear electronic brake with KERS for prolonged range every time you break. Night security is guaranteed by the effective lighting system involving front, rear and bottom LED lights.

At 21Kg, eSR2 Evo is pretty heavy for a commuting scooter. However, this is not to mean that the scooter is not portable. It remains portable thanks to a simple folding mechanism that allows it to collapse into a compact package that is easy to carry over short distances and fit in compact spaces. The scooter also features a locking mechanism with a locking latch to safely hold the stem to the deck once folded. What’s more, it incorporates a safety mechanism to prevent unexpected, abrupt folding of the stem while riding.

Keeping tabs on vital metrics such as speed, ride modes, battery level gauge, and range is easy with the large 3.5-inch LED instrument panel. Aprilia states that talented artists designed the eSR2 Evo’s distinctive livery at the Aprilia Style Center. The scooter also incorporates additional features, including an IPX4 water resistance rating and Bluetooth Connectivity with a dedicated App available on Google Play and App Store.

Performance Overview

The Aprilia eSR2 Evo electric scooter has a decent performance on city tracks. The scooter is propelled by a powerful brushless 500-watt motor that thrusts the scooter to top speeds of 25 Km/h. Riders also get to regulate the top speed by their experience, terrain, and road conditions with the 3-speed modes.

The motor has incredible torque and can push the scooter up inclines of up to 20% gradients and haul riders weighing a maximum of 220 lbs. (100kg). The large capacity battery can give you a manufacturer-cited 50 Km range on a full charge, but this is dependent on riding conditions. You also get reliable stopping power facilitated by the dual braking system.

Speed & Acceleration

The Aprilia eSR2 EVO Electric Scooter cruises at a top speed of 15.5 mph/25Km/h, which is both ideal and safe for a commuting scooter. Its top speed matches that of the Ducati Pro-III, the Jeep 2xe Urban Camou, and most mid-range scooters. At 15.5 mph, the eSR2 EVO is much faster than other commuting scooters such as the Segway Ninebot E22 and the Ninebot Air T15.

In addition, the Aprilia eSR2 Pro e-scooter integrates three-speed modes i.e. ECO: <= 6km/h | D: <= 20km/h | S: <= 25km/h (max speed). The different speed modes enable riders to attain their preferred speeds based on personal preferences, speed regulations in a city, and traffic flow.

The 500W brushless motor, peak power of 700W, delivers a zippy acceleration that is thrilling and non-jerky. To accelerate, you just have to hold down the thumb-held accelerator button on the handlebar to achieve your preferred speed. Note that holding down the accelerator button for a few seconds and maintaining a particular speed will activate the cruise control function. You will hear a tiny beep notifying you that your scooter is in cruise mode.

“Be a Racer!”–that’s the scooter’s motto. But there’s nothing mind-blowing about the speed.

Hill Climbing

The Aprilia eSR2 EVO’s 500W brushless motor produces the power needed to climb slopes with a manufacturer-stated maximum incline of up to 24%. However, with a 700W peak power, the scooter might struggle to achieve such gradeability, especially while hauling riders weighing close to the 220 lbs limit. But the eSR2 EVO does perform well on hills, matching some of the best hill climbers; Apollo Explore and the WideWheel Pro. Therefore, we recommend the eSR2 EVO’s as ideal for commuters like in hilly cities.

Battery & Range

The Aprilia eSR2 EVO is rigged with a powerful 48V, 14.4Ah, 691Wh tucked under the deck. The battery is powerful enough to attain a manufacturer-cited range of up to 21 miles (35Km) subject to different conditions such as rider weight, road condition, temperature, speed, terrain, etc. However, riders should expect a lower range in real life.

The eSR2 EVO’s achievable range still remains impressive for an urban commuting scooter, giving other commuting models such as the popular Xiaomi Mi Pro, Swagtron Swagger, Segway Ninebot, and the Model One a run for their money. The range can be extended by the eSR2’s KERS, speed Eco riding and keeping to flat tracks.

The 48V battery fires up in under 7 hours which is still impressive considering the long-range However, riders would like Aprilia to maintain the removable battery setup they had in the eSR1. The removable battery made charging the scooter convenient and owning more than one pack definitely improved range.

Motor Configuration

Powering the scooter is a 500W, peak 700W brushless motor. The motor guarantees a perfect balance of power and efficiency and is safely housed in the rear hub.

    Construction & Quality

The eSR2 EVO sports a classic Aprilia-styled black finish with red and white detailing. You can spot high-quality Aprilia stickers on the deck and stem that give the scooter stand-out aesthetics. The scooter is also neat, with the wiring neatly routed through the scooter’s hollow stem for a clean finish—a visual head turner.

The chassis is engineered out of Aluminum alloy, which is tough and lightweight. This specially designed frame helps reduce vibrations transmitted when riding on bumpy road surfaces. The scooter also features front and rear fenders made of high-quality plastic material. The rear fender is particularly interesting with its location on the far end of the deck and attached to the swingarms, not the deck as is standard for most scooters.

The front tire rims are made of heavy-duty metal. This quality makes them quite durable and less susceptible to breakage from a fall during off-road excursions. The robust kickstand is front-located and supports the scooter’s weight when stationary. The handlebars are rubberized on the ends to ensure grip. The same rubber material covers the charging sockets to keep off water and dust, supplementing the IPX4 rating.

    Suspension & Comfort

The Aprilia eSR2 EVO is fitted with double front suspension and rear suspension. The double front fork hydraulic suspension lowers the effect of driving vibrations on the arms and shoulders for enhanced comfort. The rear spring suspension, combined with the 10″ tires with inner tubes, dampens road irregularities achieving a more stable ride. However, note that while the suspension system stabilizes the ride on cycle lanes or an uneven road surface, it is not nearly as effective when doing heavy offroading.

    aprilia esr2 evo

    Ride Quality

The Aprilia eSR2 EVO offers plush rides thanks to the combination of double front and rear suspension and the 10″ pneumatic tires. The tires and suspensions cushion jolts and vibrations arising from uneven terrains and potholes, ensuring steady and comfortable rides. What’s more, the EVO comes fitted with a telescopic front fork-a feature not commonly found in commuting e-scooters-for added comfort.

Ride comfort is also supported by the spacious anti-slip deck, the ergonomic handlebars without forgetting the cruise control features. Overall, the ride quality is impressive; you shouldn’t have problems navigating typical urban terrains.

    Lights

The Aprilia eSR2 EVO is safe to ride at night, and in poor lighting conditions, thanks to the combination of front and rear, ultra-modern LED lights that offer optimal brightness. The scooter is also fitted with underside LED lights which facilitate higher visibility at night and also add to the overall scooter’s aesthetics. The lights are bright enough, guaranteeing you maximum visibility at night and in low light conditions.

    Braking

The Aprilia eSR2 EVO doesn’t compromise on braking and comes equipped with a double brake-front drum brake and rear electronic brake, providing a combined powerful braking force. The braking system also integrates a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS), which allows part of the energy to be recovered when braking.

The brakes are controlled by a single brake lever located on the left. When engaged, it activates the front drum brakes and cuts power to the rear motor. Drum brakes perform marginally better than disk brakes in wet conditions, and they require minimum maintenance, making them a good fit for the eSR2.

    Portability

Weighing 46lbs. /21Kg, the eSR2 EVO is one of the heaviest commuting scooters. It’s heavier than popular commuting scooters such as the Xiaomi Mi Pro, Fluid Freeride Horizon, Hiboy Max 3, and the Segway Ninebot E45. In fact, the weight doubles that of popular commuters such as Segway Ninebot AirT15, E-TWOW GT, and UScooters Booster Sport. The weight can be attributed to the large battery and additional features like the dual suspension system.

However, its weight doesn’t compromise its overall portability. The eSR2 EVO still manages to remain portable thanks to the seamless folding mechanism–It can be folded easily by stepping on the pedal and moving the handlebar with significant effort. Once folded, the locking latch on the stem hooks to the one on the deck, ensuring the scooter remains tightly held when folded. The safety mechanism also comes in handy to ensure the scooter doesn’t fold abruptly when the handlebar is pushed backwards while riding.

The folded scooter is a compact package measuring 121.5 x 45.5 x 55.0 cm. As such, it can seamlessly fit in compact spaces and be carried over short distances.

    aprilia esr2 evo

    Tyres

The Aprilia eSR2 EVO rolls on 10*2.5-inch pneumatic tires. The inner tube cushion jolts vibrations from the tracks and offers sufficient dampening and optimal handling, which is further compounded by the double damping system. The tires are wide enough to provide a wide surface area in contact with the road surface, which is crucial for traction and handling. While pneumatic tires are susceptible to punctures, their numerous benefits far outweigh the potential maintenance costs.

    Deck

The Aprilia eSR2 EVO’s deck is a significant improvement from the eSR1’s. This deck is longer, providing a spacious standing area that’s covered in a smooth anti-slip rubber material for maximum comfort and stability while riding. What’s more, the deck offers decent ground clearance, preventing the scooter from scraping the underside against surfaces.

The deck’s improvement also sees the eSR2 come with a kick plate at the rear where riders can place one foot for enhanced comfort and stability. Usually, the kick plate offers additional space for riders to assume the most natural posture while enjoying thrilling speeds.

    Controls & Display

The Aprilia eSR2 EVO comes with several controls and a display to give riders optimal control over their e-scooter. The cockpit implements a minimalist design featuring multiple controls on either side of the handlebar. The right handlebar hosts the thumb-held throttle, while the left hosts the front brake lever and a tiny bell.

At the centre of the cockpit is an integrated 3.5-inch LED display. The gorgeous display enables riders to keep tabs on vital information, including the scooter’s ride modes, single trip distance battery level gauge(4 bars), speedometer, service light, and range. The talented artists designed the eSR2’s captivating livery at Aprilia’s Style Center.

In addition to the controls and display, the eSR2 EVO comes with a dedicated app, i.e., the Aprilia Smart Movement App, compatible with Bluetooth Connectivity. The app can be downloaded for free from App Store and Google Play and opens up more functions and options to enhance the overall ride experience.

The multifunctional app can be used to:

    • Change metrics

    • Switch between different speed modes

    • Activate cruise control

    • Lock the scooter. This function locks the back wheel, and once successful, the scooter will emit a loud beep should anyone try to forcefully move it.

    • Geolocate the scooter in cases of theft

    • Monitor all parameters of the scooter, including distance traveled, charge level, and geographical positioning.

    • It can function as a true “Virtual Garage,” enabling users to register multiple products and access technical support services in real-time via WhatsApp chat.

    Water Resistance

The Aprilia eSR2 EVO is rated IPX4, meaning it is resistant to water splashes and dust. Therefore, you can ride it in light showers without worrying about the electric components getting damaged.

    Reliability

The Aprilia delivers everything you’d expect from the legendary Italian Motorbike brand. An incredibly detailed, high-quality electric vehicle. The frame is durably built with high-quality finishing. The design is simple and comes with minimum electronics, which means there’s less likelihood of the scooter breaking down.

The drum brakes do not need much in terms of maintenance. Similarly, most parts feature a metallic finish, thus less breakage and repairs are needed. The superior battery gives riders a fantastic range; therefore, the scooter can deliver you to your destination and back on a single charge.

The eSR2 Evo is everything, and you’d expect from a premium electric scooter range. And more. It’s a truly reliable commuting scooter that you can trust to streamline your commutes.

    Warranty

The Aprilia eSR2 EVO warranty varies from six months to two years, depending on the distributor and the country where it is purchased.

Aprilia offers outstanding customer service on this unit ranging from technical assistance to consultation. You can also use the Aprilia Smart Movement App to access technical support services in real-time via WhatsApp chat.

    Maintenance

The Aprilia eSR2 EVO requires regular maintenance for optimum functionality, safety, and durability. Some of the maintenance practices you can carry out on this scooter include:

    • Dusting it off after every ride

    • Checking the tire pressure and inflating them if needed

    • Lubricating moving parts and joints

    • Regularly checking for loose nuts and screws and tightening them.

    • Adjusting the brakes if need be.

    • Storing your scooter fully charged– but don’t leave it charging overnight.

    Known Issues

The Aprilia eSR2 EVO just recently made its debut in the market, and as such, it is still too early to indicate the problems that come with riding it for any significant period of time. However, once more people acquire and try out this e scooter, we will update our review with our personal experiences and user feedback.

Aprilia eSR2 Evo: Is it worth the money and is it worth buying?

Definitely! For the £799/ $1044 price tag, the scooter is a steal. The dual suspension system, the adequate lighting, the aesthetics, the ergonomics, the user app, autonomy range thanks to the powerful battery, and reliable top speed all make the scooter worthy of any serious commuter’s consideration. But what really stuck with us was the multifunctional app that drives this scooter straight into the smart commuting era. The Aprilia eSR2 is not just piggy-backing on the brand’s name but has put in considerable effort to stand worthy of the name.

However, we would like to see improvements to the brakes, maybe upgrade to more effective hydraulic disc brakes. The removable battery in the eSR1 was also something we were sad to see go. In addition, the deck may be longer, but it is definitely a little too narrow for our liking. Then finally, Aprilia should consider pneumatic tubeless tires to retain the benefits of pneumatics without being prone to punctures. But, we stand by our endorsement of this scooter and think it’s worth every penny.
